Using Gerund and Infinitive Phrases

A gerund phrase starts with the ing form of a verb and includes any objects and modifiers. A gerund phrase functions as a noun.

Playing guitar in my band is my favorite activity.

      (The gerund phrase Playing guitar in my band functions as the subject of the sentence.)

My friend Jaxon loves playing keyboards.

      (The gerund phrase playing keyboards functions as the direct object.)
