Teacher Tips and Answers

Avoiding Sentence Fragments

teacher showing class a snake

A sentence needs to have a subject and verb.

Mr. Jones brought his snake to class.

If you have just a subject, or just a verb, you have a sentence fragment.

Mr. Jones.

       (What about him?)

Brought his snake to class.

       (Who did?)

You can fix a sentence fragment by adding what is missing.
